AP in cat form
I can’t remember which forums I was reading, but it went into the dps of cat form very very thoroughly. Basically, you need a balance of crit and AP… and due to how easily cats get AP (feral staff, Agility converting to AP), you can completely ignore additional AP because it is impossible to achieve enough crit to go past the balance point. In other words, ignore your AP. It means virtually nothing. Worry about increasing your crit (generally through Agility at least until Elvaan Male

Healer’s perception of our tanking gear
So I’m standing just inside the instance at heroic UK after being the last person summoned in and I start getting tells from my healer troll priest (Here’s his armory) ~ now, it’s fairly obvious to me he’s ran his fair share of heroics. I’ve ran 9-10 but haven’t really tried to run more, just when it’s convenient to me. He asks me if I’m really planning on tanking in the gear I’m in (gear link in my sig subtracting my argent dawn commision for that 70 armor trinket). I told him it’s some of the best stuff I can’t get for heroics pre-raid and I haven’t had real problems in any heroics I’ve done, including running heroic UK a couple times already. After the first few rooms we got to the dragons room and we started clearing it, when I noticed I was always getting close to death on the pulls. Now, I’ll be honest, my style of tanking has never really included using Barkskin on the trash pulls, unless i’m pulling more than 3 but I was having to constantly pop that and the 30 health talent. I stopped after the second dragon to let him regen mana and he was openly complaining in party chat of how much damage I was taking during the run. Which has never happened to me before. I may not be the best geared bear in the world, but I figure 28k self buffed hp, 22k armor and 35.5 dodge is really respectable. Getting hit for 2k-3.5k in heroics is normal to me. During the next pull I die, and the Deathknight ends up tanking the dragon and survives (barely) at which time the priest proclaims that he should tank because I’m not geared for it. Then it got into a heated conversation about druid tanking gear and what stats are important. I told him that defense was nigh worthless to bears and he flipped, we ended up wiping and both myself and him left the group. I’m not upset about it, and I’m not even worried, I’m just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience or has been asked about their gear before? When do I gem Armor Penetration?
Thank you very much. That was very useful. I went through a few pages of Google and different search terms and all I could find were opinions on random forums rather than any useful numbers. “Armor pen sucks” doesn’t help when you know it is useful at some Who Are Weary> Nordrassil, US Alliance | Deborah – Paladin 80; Anatelnova – Mage 80; Biancala – Druid 80; Airstrike – Shaman 80 Horde | Chasiti – Paladin 80; Distress – Death Knight 80; Ashalana – Warlock 80; Starfury – Rogue 77; Rainstorm – Hunter 73; Iaomai – Priest 56I’m lazy right now. click here Quote:Q: TL;DR. Sum it up for me! A: Sigh. Okay. Assuming you have ~ivl 215 gear, as it stands now (3.2.1), you want to switch to for ArP around 450 for 25m raids, or 300 if you have Grim Runestone. (high 600?? for 10m raids.) For 3.2.2, you would switch at 850ish for 25m raids, and 1150ish for 10m. For GT/MR, I need to test it some more and get more data points, but at this gear level, the proc is tough to manage since you have to (attempt to) stack so much ArPen for it to be useful, but then much of the proc effect is wasted due to the cap. more clicky Edited, Sep 11th 2009 12:30am by Horsemouth-Day light savings is for fools. I just grabbed the t7 shoulders and have a red socket now. I’m over hit cap. Over soft expertise cap. Now what do I want to start gemming for? Agility or armor pen? Whats your Balance DPS?
I gave a little check on your armory and theres no reason your dps should be the same as mine. Whats your rotation? How do you usually play your moonkin? One thing I noticed is that your trinkets are not the ideal, but maybe you are used to them, I dunno. I like the ones that give SP each time we cast, like Illustration of Dragon Soul and Eye of Broodmother. The one from Anub is quite OP too. How much do you everyone, In order to judge my potential and identify possible in my situational rotation as a Moonkin I thought I would relate a few of my past raid experiences and see what comes of it. Its pretty tough competition in my guild since everyone has full 245/251. I have almost full 245 a few 232s and a 265 trink. I was lucky enough to get two trophies to buy 245 set gear and my other 2 pieces are 232 and my wep is 232. I have been pretty low on each DPS meter doing TOGC (usually 16th/25) and dishing out probably around 6K maximum on the single target boss mobs, which is practically every encounter. Lord Jaraxxus summons his lady minion and I get a blip more from hitting 2 chars with starfall YAY, but other than that I have benchmarked myself there. On a single target raid dummy in IF I can manage 4k dps but it slowly falls off to about 3.5 as treants cooldown before you can use em again. I have my haste gloves macro’d to my starfall which I bound to my 3rd mouse button for immediate use upon cooldown. I really have done some thorough research in to my rotation so comparisons and other points of view on what our dps is for single Raid bosses would be great. Ciaoder

Just because it’s Blue Mail
Doesn’t mean it’s for a hunter! Don’t go into an instance decked out in blue gear that does nothing for you. Herod’s Shoulders and Gauntlets of Elements are NOT hunter items. Sure, the shoulder’s are debatable for PvP, but NOT for PvE, so bank them when you’re going anywhere to grind. Here’s a Tip for those hunters who think Blue = 1337: A green item with main stats of Agi, AP or Crit rating is BETTER than a blue item with main stats of STR, Stamina, or Spirit. Also, here’s a breakdown of the basic green armor: Stuff Hunters wear: “Of the Monkey” Awesome. “Of the Falcon” Really awesome. “Of Power” You’ll hit hard, make big DPS “Of the Tiger” Go for the above three if you can. Hunter’s don’t need STR. Stuff hunters DON’T wear: “Of the Bear” Sell it to a Warrior “Of the Owl” Sell it to a Caster “Of the Eagle” Again, sell it to a caster. “Of the Gorilla” Str and Int? wtf “Of the Whale” Get it out of the economy by Vendoring or Disenchanting it. I’m just getting really tired of people saying “Hunters have low DPS!” when it’s the hunters giving them reason to say that by wearing crappy gear.

trapping in instances
I started doing instances lately. Before a pull, the leader tags mobs. One of the symbols is for trapping, so I am expected to trap the mob. Another symbol is for pet offtanking. So I have 2 jobs on a 4+ mob pull. The tricky thing is, I’m not the one pulling (this is because I am unfamiliar with the instance). Here is what I’ve been doing after the puller pulls: 1. when mobs get close enough, send pet on offtank-mob and trigger Intimidation to ensure good agro 2. set freeze trap 3. agro trap-mob and direct it into the trap 4. pewpew main target 5. when trap-mob thaws, tank it (still have 10 seconds until I can re-trap) Is there a better way of doing things here? It would be simpler if I were the one pulling, but at this point I have to do without. More often than not, my trapped mob gets thawed early by someone, because it’s trapped close by other ones and can be mis-targeted. Should I be pulling it off to the side, or should people just stop attacking it by mistake (or on you for the feedback.-David A. Beast Lord gives more agi. , mana/5. And through the morer agi. more attack power. This is a much better pve set . Desolation gives mroe crit, stamina, int. The higher stam. and crit makes it better for pvp. I just wanted to know what people thought of these two dungeon sets. Beast

Orc or Tauren hunter, amd what pets do they get?
Sayis wrote:Any hunter can tame any pet, regardless of race. Orcs ride worgs, tauren ride kodos. Class doesn’t matter for this. Any race besides orc would need to become Exalted with Orgrimmar before they could ride a worg instead of their normal mount.

Cat vs Fel Guard
Fel Guards are more like Fury spec is thier specialty. Just as a hunter can play like crap not controlling thier pet, locks can do as well. Your group might have allowed your cat to hold aggro so they could just focus on damage (like turning your growl off when in instances). Not really a hard thing to think of boss. Just food for thought -Them: You holy? Me: No, I’m athiest Them: Uh…can you heal? Me: Um..I’m a priest Ok now dont say I am stupid before looking at what I have to say plz. No I am not asking what one to get. I am wondering. I thought Fel Guards were stronger tanks than the Hunters cat. I was curious because I was grouped with 2 locks that have Fel Guards and their guards could not take aggro off my cat for the life of them. My cat died 2 times against the Overlord in Hellfire. But I had to sac her so the rest of the group wouldnt die… we didnt have any healers. just Me a lvl 61 rogue and 2 61 locks. I hadnt trained my cat with the newest growl yet either. my pets growl was lvl 50 one. Was it cause of my cats attack speed? once it crits which i make sure it does at the beginning of the fight her attack speed is .99 though her damage is low because of it. I just knew my rez on my pet is like 4 sec verse the locks summon of fel guard which is what like 7 or 10 something like that… (not sure on the time for that one though I do my lock spends a while summoning an imp or void walker.) The Best Weapons For a Hunter?
Well, as a new Hunter, you will benefit from reading the Sticky, and take a look at Petopia, TKAsomething and Sayis’ Beastmaster Guide. The two websites are linked in the Sticky, and the BM Guide is in the Guide section in the lower section of the sidebar to your left. And as for weapons, nothing will gimp you. Choose weapons from their stats. And I do suggest running to both Ironforge and then take the tram to Stormwind for the Weapon Master trainers. Train all weapons you can train, just on the off chance that something drops that you can use, or that you find something nice on the Auction House. But one word of advice: Never EVER choose a melee weapon because of the DPS or Melee Damage. Your melee weapons are there for Two things. Stats that benefit your ranged DPS, and for getting back to range after aggroing something off your pet. Reading the sticky and the Beastmastery Guide should set you on the path of becoming a good Hunter. Petopia also has some very nice information about Pets and their general uses and stats. -Friar Bijou wrote:ITT: NorthAI is a L?rd Kaolian wrote:We get some batsht insane people here on occasion.Hello everyone, I am a brand new Night Elf Hunter, just recently got level 21. At the moment I’m juggling a cat named Pusspuss and a wolf named Fleabag, both of which I am keeping up to speed in levels. I am also speccing for Beast Mastery because, being this is my first character in WoW, I am not necessarily aiming for group efficiency but more so my own personal enjoyment and exploration of the game world. A BM specced Hunter seems the closest thing to my favorite job from FFXI, Beastmaster, so I’m going to roll with that for a while. My main question here is this: is there a weapon type for Hunter that I should be aiming for? In the long run does a weapon type not even matter for someone who wants to quest and solo exp? At the moment I am dual wielding daggers but am I gimping myself by doing this? I have been eyeing training one hand axes for a few days but I’m not sure if I should risk the run to Ironforge, where the only axe trainer I know of exists. But the main question still stands: is there a weapon type? Anyways, quite late last night (Same Night) was just browsing through the AH for gems, etc etc when i get 2x Pm’s in WOW saying what a S, Noobish, WKR of a hunter i am. Was very shocked, i asked them what they were going on about to only find i was being Ignored. Anyways more to the question, im starting to doing heroic Ramparts (The first Hellfire Instance) and the higher end instances and just need to clarify basically if im “cut” out for it? Gear decent enough for it? i havent done many quest’s in Neatherstorm or Shadowmoon as yet. Any Advise, Guidence and generally information would be very much apprecaited.
